SBY welcomes David Cameron

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono welcomed UK Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday at 15.00 in Istana Merdeka, Jakarta. Then, they held a bilateral meeting. Before meeting the president, Cameron visited Kalibata Heroes Cemetery to give an honor.

On the meeting, SBY and Cameron signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the purchase of Airbus planes between Garuda and Airbus. “The agreement is the purchase of 11 A33- Airbus planes for an amount estimated at 300 trillion IDR,” the Deputy of Garuda, Emirsyah Satar.

Both countries also signed the MoU on education with the UK Minister of Universities and Science.

UK Ambassador to Indonesia, Mark Canning, explained that the prime minister’s visit was to strengthen bilateral relationship, especially in economic sector through UK trade investment in Indonesia.

On Thursday, Cameron will deliver a speech before the scholar in Al-Azhar University, Jakarta. On the same say, UK Trade Minister Lord Green with 35 UK entrepreneurs will hold a meeting with Indonesian entrepreneurs on the UK investment opportunity in Indonesia.

The export value from UK to Indonesia reached 273 million euro in January-May 2011, while the import value from Indonesia to UK reached 514 million euro. The investment is mostly in the form of chemical industry, metal, mining, real estate, transportation and communication, food industry, trade, hotel and restaurant, electronic, and service.
