REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, HONG KONG – Indonesia will be actively involved in international diplomacy to eliminate nuclear arms race in the world, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) said. “The next generation will be safer from nuclear weapon threats,” President said on a dialogue with Indonesian citizens in Hong Kong on Sunday.

He arrived in Seoul, South Korea, to attend Nuclear Security Summit 2012 starts Monday until Tuesday. According to SBY, the world should be safer from nuclear weapon threat.

“For those countries which already obtain nuclear weapons, please do not proliferate it,” SBY asked, as reported Nasihin Masha from Republika.

While in China, SBY also emphasized the importance of prosperity and peace in Asia and Pacific Regions. People now face some disastrous threats, such as nuclear arms race. “If you have the budget the its better if you allocate it for the sake of people’s welfare,” he suggested.

International relations should be based on the principles of equality and harmony to reach peace, discipline, and stability in the region. SBY expects Asia Pacific to develop regional architecture according to the principle of geopolitics of cooperation.

“By building self-confidence and trust, military cooperation can be directed to cope with natural disasters,” he gave an example. All this time, each country is only developing dynamic equilibrium.

The summit in Seoul is attended by 53 world-leaders and international organization. One of the issues talked on the summit is the North Korean plan to launch rocket. The US accuses the move as diversion of North Korea’s plan to test long-range ballistic missile launch.
