REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources is drafting regulation on restriction of exporting two kinds of coal with the calorie under 5.100 kilocalories (kcal) per kilogram (kg) and under 5.700 kcal per kg. “The draft is being discussed,” the Director of Business Development at the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, Eddy Prasodjo, said on the Annual Conference on Coal IV in Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, on Tuesday. The reserve of coal with calorie under 5.100 kcal per kg in domestic is 8.7 billion tonnes, while the reserve of coal under 5.700 kcal per kg is 18.6 billion tonnes.

The aim of the regulation is to boost the absorbing of domestic coal while more than 78 percent of national coal production is exported. Nevertheless, the Chairman of Indonesian Mining Professionals Association (Perhapi), Irwandy Arif, said the restriction could decrease the state income. If the restriction is applied to under 5.100 kcal coal, state will lose 79.9 million USD from export while restrict the export of under 5.700 kcal coal, the state will lose 916 million USD. “This is 34.1 percent from the total of national income,” Arif said.
