REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan planned to immediately organize pedicabs operation in certain areas in the capital city by using Gubernatorial Decree (Pergub). However, he asserted that pedicabs would never be back to operate on the main streets or highways.

The pedicabs will be organized in areas, where it already operated. During this time, the pedicab drivers have experienced in hiding from the authorities because their vehicles was prohibited to operate. In fact, people in several aresas still need pedicab for certain things.

The pedicabs still operated in Jakarta capital sub-urban areas. Because of that, provincial government need to arrange the operation of kind of three wheel vehicles, also the routes will be determined.

"So, don't imagine the pedicabs will be on main streets in Jakarta, we will organize this vehicles to operate in several areas which where already operated," said Anies on Wednesday (January 17).

Anies said, the policy is a form of alignment to those who are not too lucky as economically. Jakarta Provincial Government wants to give equal and fair opportunity for all citizens in capital city.

"The pedicab drivers deserve to earn better and Jakarta is also owned by those who are still poor, same as the rich, and each class of community," Anies added.
