REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan appreciated the Supreme Court's (MA) decision to revoke governor regulation related to banning of motorcycle passing along city main roads. He considered, the ruling in line with his plan to revoke the governor regulation. 

"The decision is the same as our idea," Anies said on Monday (January 8).

Anies ensured, the Jakarta provincial government will obey and implement the decision. This verdict strengthened or legitimized the wishes of Anies-Sandi so that the MH Thamrin and Medan Merdeka Barat streets can be accessed by two wheels. Anies assessed, the revocation of the regulation is in accordance to the principle of justice.

"It means that we are running something based on the principle of justice. We have said before that we want to have equality of opportunity. Jakarta is not owned by some people, Jakarta is owned by all," he explained. 

In a copy of the decision uploaded on the official website of www.mahkamahagung.go.id, a panel of judges chaired by Irfan Fachrudin granted the petition filed by Yuliansah Hamid and Diki Iskandar.

In the decision number 57 P / HUM / 2017 the Supreme Court declared Article 1 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) juncto Article 3 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) Governor Regulation No. 141 of 2015 on Amendment to Governor Regulation 1954 2014 on Restrictions Motorcycle Traffic has no binding legal force. 

Supreme Court considered motorcycle traffic restrictions to be contrary to higher laws and regulations, namely Article 133 paragraph 1 of Law Number 22 Year 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation, Article 11 of Law Number 39 Year 1999 on Human Rights and Article 5 and 6 of Law Number 12 Year 2011 on the Establishment of Laws and Regulations.
