Jakarta govt to improve public transportation services

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy governor of DKI Jakarta Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said, the provincial government will improve public transportation services in the Jakarta areas. Sandiaga wanted people to switch from private vehicles to public transportation within five years. 

"There are a lot of problems, but we will focus about public transportation problems in Jakarta. We want to improve transporstation services in Jakarta," said Sandiaga after meeting with Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (December 4).

Public transportation services will be improved and be implemented in stages but massively. "There is a movement to move from private vehicles to public transportations within five years," he said. 

Sandiaga continued, to support it, the provincial government will increase investment in the public transportation sector. "We want a partnership with the Ministry of Transportation, one of them that the train stations will become a transit oriented development (TOD)," he said.

Sandiaga said, he encouraged the construction of elevated looklines to ease traffic congestion. He assessed, there were so many intersections that disturb the traffic. 

"If possible, it could be constructed in Gondangdia until Gambir. It will be very helpful," he said.

"We will accelerate the investment, the infrastucture development as well as funding," he said.
