REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla has called on Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Vice Governor Sandiaga Uno to develop Jakarta, so that it ranks among the world's top 10 best cities.

"Yes. Pak (Mr) Vice President Jusuf Kalla has urged us to take steps to transform Jakarta, so that it ranks among the 10 best cities in the world" Jakarta Governor Baswedan stated in the company of Uno after meeting Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla at the Vice Presidential Office in Jakarta on Thursday.

Baswedan and Uno had met Kalla to report and seek inputs as well as to discuss issues related to the capital city of Jakarta.

Baswedan further explained that the discussion on various important issues in Jakarta took place in several sessions. During the first session, Baswedan discussed about Jakarta's readiness to host the Asian Games in the capital city and Palembang.

Vice President Kalla noted that Baswedan had urged the Jakarta governor to ensure the readiness and completion of the venues to be used.

"Talks were also centered on Jakarta, with the first issue being of congestion management, while the second was related to cleanliness, the third being the handling of floods, and the fourth being related to the arrangement of slum villages," Baswedan stated.

Baswedan said during the meeting, the vice president specifically also showed photographs of sewers in the city of Istanbul. In the photos, the sewers across Istanbul were built with semi-permanent holes having removable iron covers. Thus, access to the sewers was not covered with concrete lids as in Jakarta.

"Pak (Mr) Kalla specifically took pictures of sewers in Istanbul that are covered with hollow iron lids, so they can be cleaned," he revealed.

Meanwhile, Vice Governor Uno said the vice president had emphasized that the Jakarta government can ensure that the venues for holding the Asian Games will be completed on time.

"If necessary, we must continue to monitor it," Uno remarked.

On the occasion, the vice president also urged the governor to work immediately and transform Jakarta in line with the promises he had made during the campaign.
