REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Secretary general of Majelis Sinergi Kalam - Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (Masika - ICMI), Ismail Rumadan, regretted and wondered with the act of Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who is seemed to compel and backed the Jakarta bay reclamation project.

He said Luhut's decision to lift moratorium on Jakarta bay reclamation project is controversial. Moreover, Luhut's predecessor, Rizal Ramli, stopped the project based on rational considerations.

"Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has to investigate Luhut's motivation behind the lifting of moratorium for it has not been applied even for a year," Ismail said in a written statement received by Republika.co.id, on Sunday (October 8)

Ismail assessed Luhut indeed always seemed to support the Jakarta bay reclamation project while the Ministry of Environment has opposed the project for harming the environment.

"Luhut looked wroth when hearing the elected Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan plan to stop the reclamation project," he remarked.

Ismail said Luhut decided to lift moratorium on Jakarta bay reclamation project without any rational explanation to the people. He recalled four ministries were involved in the issuance of moratorium.

“Moratorium was issued by Mr Rizal Ramli with considering the aspect of laws and environment, so it is the right thing to do and has a clear ground," Ismail who is also a dean of Law in Nasional University said.

Therefore, Masika-ICMI called on Luhut to explain the rational of his decision. "Otherwise, the law enforcement officers have to check the motive behind his maneuver," Ismail said.
