17 islands in Jakarta will reclaimed to become three sectors

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Head of Development Planning Agency (Bapedda) Jakarta, Tuty Kusumawati, said there were many regulations updated on Local Reclamation Regulations in Jakarta. One of them was sectoral division of 17 islands that were included in the list of reclamation.

Tuty explained, the draft of regulations, which would be proposed, would divide 17 islands along the northern of Jakarta into three sectors. Each sector would be developed in accordance with its respective sections.

"It will be divided into three development sectors," she said, Sunday (18/10).

Tuty stated that the island in the western part would become a residential, tourist and recreation areas. For the central island, she added, would be a commercial area, such as office activities and trade industries.  While, the eastern part, there would a port of Jakarta Provincial distribution center of goods that enter Jakarta.

"The eastern area will be Port of Jakarta, as logistics distribution center," she explained.

The division of this sectors has not been set in the previous regulation. Therefore, the draft of regulations would be focusing on arrangement of reclaimed island according to its function.

In addition, there were regulations relating to the procurement of green open space (RTH) of reclaimed island. Not only green space, public facilities and social facilities also have to be built on each island.
