REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING -- Wu Zhiming, chairman of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, plans to meet Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama on Wednesday to discuss sister-city cooperation, an Indonesian diplomat stated here, Wednesday.

"We hope that this sister-city cooperation can be realized," the Indonesian Consulate General's spokesperson, Faraiditto Suharyono, told Antara.

On Tuesday, Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. and Wu Zhiming had hinted at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, education, technology, and investment, Suharyono noted.

The commitment was recorded in a memorandum of understanding that Hamengku and Zhiming signed in Yogyakarta. The two leaders agreed to develop sister city cooperation between Yogyakarta and Shanghai.

"The sister-city cooperation between Jakarta and Shanghai will also be promoted to strengthen friendship," Suharyono remarked.

By realizing such form of cooperation, the Jakarta provincial government could take a cue from the Shanghai municipal government on how to manage the city, including matters related to the public transportation system, Suharyono pointed out.

The municipal government of Shanghai, China's main economic hub, reportedly needs a hundred years to manage an interconnected system that properly integrates various means of transportation, such as the China Railway High-Speed and Mass Rapid Transit trains, regular commuter trains, public buses, and taxi cabs.

During his stay in Jakarta, Zhiming is also scheduled to meet with Zulkifli Hasan, speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly, Suharyono added.
