REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have named a member of the Tabanan District Legislative Council (DPRD) in Bali Province as a suspect in an alleged drug abuse case.

"He has been named a suspect," Director of Drug Detective of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Nico Afinta said here on Friday.

The DPRD member, identified by his initials as INWP, was named a suspect after questioning. He was arrested along with his girlfriend, identified by her initials as LOS, at a hotel in Pecenongan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (June 14).

In their further investigation, the police arrested a man, identified by his initials as IP, and his wife, identified as NYA, and seized 2,053 ecstasy pills and 1.8 grams of crystal meth from their house in Jakarta's southwestern outskirts of Ciputat.

Nico stated that the police will coordinate with the National Narcotics Board (BNN) to assess the extent to which INWP has been addicted to drugs.

Chief of the Public Relations Division at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono revealed that INWP became a drug addict as he had a problem with his family.

"He had a problem with his family and so he consumed it (drugs). He admitted to have consumed drugs only once, but the police did not believe that," he explained.
