Lawyers report Nasdem party leader over alleged blasphemy

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON – At least 11 lawyers of Muslims defender report Chairman of Cirebon's Nasdem party, Sukaryadi, to the local police on Thursday (July 6). They believed Sukaryadi who is also the chairman of Cirebon people's representatives council has insult Islam.

Mustamid, one of the lawyer of Muslims defender, said Sukaryadi has made an insulting statement on his Facebook personal account. 

On Monday (July 3), Sukaryadi wrote on his Facebook wall, "As a leader, don't be afraid of Allah, let alone afraid of the law. If I was trusted to be the regent, it meant everything to me."

His post immediately sparked criticism from the netizens. Although Sukaryadi has removed his status, but the writings has went viral.

"We deeply regret Sukaryadi's post on Facebook as it was very offensive to Muslims and disturbing the people of Cirebon," Mustamid said after reporting to the police for the alleged blasphemy case.

Moreover, Sukaryadi is a member of the council and chairman of the Honorary Board of People's Representatives Assembly Cirebon Regency. 

Mustamid planned to meet with chairman of Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI), leader of Nahdlatul Ulama and leader of Muhammadiyah in Jakarta to report the case. 

Mustamid added, the case should be a concern and a lesson for all parties in using social media. He asserted, anyone who uses social media must be careful, especially when writing something that could defame a religion. "This is very risky," he said.

Cleric Andi Mulya who accompanied the 11 lawyers said as a Muslim, he felt offended by Sukaryadi statement. 

He said it could not be neglected as it was written by someone who is a member of the council, chairman of Honorary Board of the local council and chairman of a party.

"There were indications of deliberate elements in Sukaryadi's writing on his personal Facebook account. Therefore, we asked for a firm action from the police," he said.
