25 injured after falling down elevator shaft

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- As many as 25 people were injured after they fell down an elevator shaft in Blok M Square in South Jakarta, Friday. "The victims are currently receiving medical treatment at RSPP (Pertamina Hospital)," Chief of the Kebayoran Baru Police Station Adjunct Senior Commissioner Teguh Wibowo said here, Friday.

RSPP doctors have not allowed the police to interrogate the victims, as they are still being treated, Wibowo remarked. The police have so far interrogated several witnesses, including the building's cleaning supervisor Ati (35).

Ati revealed she heard a loud sound in the basement where the elevator shaft was believed to have fallen from the first floor. The other witness, Widyaningrum, recalled the elevator shaft was packed when it was on the seventh floor after Friday prayers.

No fatalities were reported.

The injured have been identified as Sutoto (40), Salmudin (33), Bumi Suhartan (31), Diana (18), Hani Nurhasanah (18), Lesi (25), Shadiq Al Beri (41), Ridwan (48), David Evan (26), Ari Budi Nugraha (19) dan Ade Gunawan (16), Wisnu Panduwinata (30), and Yasa (41).

The others are Nina Azmia (18), Nadira Indriani (18), Afdal (50), Widyaningrum (19), Endang Supriatna (28), Sunardi (21), Subiri (57), Mahmud (20), Irfan Irmansyah (21), Bagus Pribadi (19), Indra Nur Rahman (24) and Suna Wijaya (52).
