Police asks mass of 212 rally to prepare representatives to meet with legislators

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- About 20 thousand people has planned to staged a rally in front of the Parliamentary building, Jakarta, on Tuesday. In relation to the date of the rally  (Feb 21), the demonstration also dubbed as 212 rally. Also, it was called 212 rally phase II to distinguish it with the previous 212 rally on Friday, December 2, 2016. 

The mass wanted to conveyed their aspirations to the legislators. One of their demand was to urged the president to temporarily discharged Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) from his position as governor of Jakarta since he has been indicted with violating articles 156 and 156 (a) of the Criminal Code on blasphemy.

The National Police have asked Muslims Forum (FUI) as the initiator of the rally to prepare their representatives to meet with the legislators. "We know that our Parliament is the house of our society, so we should maintain security," said the Public Relations of the National Police Sr. Boy Rafli Amar in the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Monday (Feb 20). 

Previously, Boy said the police have detected indication of riot during the rally. He asked the field coordinator of the rally ensured the demonstration to be peaceful and orderly. "We've detected there were provocation and the rally would lead to condition of anarchy," Boy said.

Boy reminded the people who joined the rally not to do harmful actions to themselves and to other people. The police have reminded all the elements of the society who were invited to join the demonstration at the Representatives/the Assembly House to be ready to conduct a peaceful action. "We call the people to maintain the public order and the smooth traffic, and not to take the rights of others."

In case there was a riot, the police would arrest the field coordinator to take the responsibility. "So don't invite people who did not ready to have a peaceful rally," he reminded. 

The 212 rally phase II also held to demand the imprisonment of Ahok as defendant of religious blasphemy. The mass also asked the government to stopped the criminalization of ulemas. The last one was to asked the government to stopped arresting student activists.
