Being shouted on impromptu visit, Ahok: It was just a few people

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Local residents of the Village of Sukabumi Utara Pasar Rawabelong, Kebon Jeruk Subdistrict, West Jakarta, have protested while incumbent Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) did an impromptu visit in the area, Wednesday (11/2).

Ahok arrived at the scene at 4:10 pm. He went straight to meatball stalls. The residents immediately welcomed him. Ahok shook hands with children and provided opportunities for those who wanted to take picture with him.

However, around 10 minutes later, Ahok entered a small path named Jl Ayup. Suddenly, groups of people who claimed themself as Rawabelong local residents screamed and said, "Allahu Akbar. What you did here?". A number of residents shouted at him.

There were tension between the police and residents. Some residents were trying to approached Ahok. They held posters to protest Ahok's alleged religious blasphemy

Ahok said he felt welcomed by the local residents. He claimed only a few people disagree with him. "It was just a few people who were screaming," he said about the protesters.

The campaign period of Jakarta gubernatorial election has been started from October 28, 2016 until February 11, 2017. The election day will be held on February 15, 2017.

There were three pairs of candidates for Jakarta governor and deputy governor registered in Jakarta Gubernatorial election, namely Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno.
