REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State-owned enterprises (BUMN) are not only profit oriented but also must have multiplier effects that contribute to people welfare President Joko Widodo said.

President encouraged BUMN to take a bigger role to become the locomotive to move national economy.

Previously, President has given time for BUMN to study the road map to become BUMN that are strong, agile, and more competitive.

"I have asked for the design and the road map in the form of a super holding or holding or it can be virtual holding," President said on Monday (29/2) at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, led a limited cabinet meeting on BUMN.

President said, BUMN must immediately make quick moves to face ASEAN Economic Community.

Also attending the meeting were, among others, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Resources Rizal Ramli, and Minister of State-owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno.
