REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has set a target to attract 100 potential investors from China during an Indonesia-China Business forum in Shanghai, to be held on Friday.

BKPM Head Franky Sibarani said in a written statement on Thursday that he is scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting with a number of Chinese companies that have an interest in investing sectors, such as tourism, industrial zones, nickel processing and electricity plants in Indonesia.

"Although, we have been encouraging growth, investment cooperation between both the nations has reached far from its respective potential. We will encourage higher investment growth and invite Chinese investors to make an investment in strategic sectors in Indonesia," Franky said.

He explained that during the first three quarters of 2015, Chinese investment commitment had risen by 46 percent or worth U.S.$13.9 billion. This meant the investors had obtained principle licenses.

Over the past five years, the realization of Chinese investment in Indonesia grew on an average of 66 percent per annum from U.S.$174 million in 2010 to U.S.$800 million in 2014.

Its investment plan in 2010 was recorded at U.S.$36 billion. "The Chinese investment plan is categorically big. The ratio of its investment realization and its investment plan is still below 10 percent," Franky said.
