UK to offer Indonesia cooperation to combat ISIS

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- British Prime Minister David Cameron will visit Indonesia to hold interfaith dialogue on managing extremism and promoting tolerant with senior religious leaders. UK currently concerns on the emergenge of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). The dialogue is aimed to seek cooperation with Indonesia to fight the 'common enemy'.

British Ambassador to Indonesia Moazzam Malik said, Cameron and delegation as well as senior religious leaders would talk about experience on managing extremism and promoting tolerance. "Extremism is a problem that affects us all. Countries all around the world are worried of the emergence of ISIL, an organization that is misusing, abusing in the name of religion, in the name of Islam and perpetrating terrorist crime," he said on Sunday, July 26.

UK, Malik said, is looking for cooperation on counterterrorism as both countries have history of such cooperation in Bali bombing in 2012.

Besides CT, the prime minister will learn from Indonesia's strong record in maintaining tolerance. "Will be keen to see how we can benefit from that experience," he said.
