Europe Week 2015 in Indonesia kicks off

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Europe Week 2015 organized by the European Union in Indonesia kicks off as of May 1 and will last until May 13, 2015. Acting European Union Ambassador to Indonesia Colin Crooks said on Sunday, May 3, that the European Week 2015 would organize such activities as arts, cultural, cooperation, sports and education events.

"There are many activities to be organized during the Europe Week 2015 in Indonesia which could strengthen political, economic and cultural exchange relations," Crooks said during a marathon event organized with a theme of "EU on the move 5K" here on Sunday.

Crooks said the activities included 'Europe on Screen' film festival which will last from May 1 to May 10, 2015 in six Indonesian cities of Jakarta, Bandung, Denpasar, Medan, Surabaya and Yogyakarta. "Through Europe on Screen, we will disseminate a message on intercultural understanding and present 62 film titles produced by renown European film producers," he said.

On sports event, the activity of 'EU on the Move 5K' marathon has enlivened protocol roads in Jakarta such as Jalan Sudirman which started from Samoerna Startegic building and ended in the finish lines at the Intiland building, or the headquarters of the European Union in Indonesia. Crooks said that the sale result of 50,000 tickets would be contributed to less fortunate children.

He said that on May 5, 2015, his side will launch 'Blue Book 2015,' an annual report on Europe-Indonesia development cooperation at Le Meridien Hotel, Jakarta. Presentations will be followed with a discussion on the environment and climate change with panelists including French, German and Belgian ambassadors, he said.

On education, the events will also include Scholarship Info Day Europe-Indonesia on May 9 at Grand Sahid Hotel. It will cover presentations on information of education in Europe. Language courses, scholarship opportunities in Europe, bazaars, exhibitions and entertainment shows will also mark the Europe Week 2015 on May 11 up to 13.

The Europe Week 2015 is organized in cooperation with the Gajah Mada University.
