REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Pertagas said it hopes to distribute 250 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas to North Sumatra enough to feed industries in the province.
The gas is supplied from a liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving and regasification terminal in Arun, Aceh, said Hendra Jaya, the president director of the subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina.
"It is calculated that industrial sector in North Sumatra needs around 250 MMSCFD," Hendra Jaya said in a statement here on Monday (9/3).
The LNG terminal will also supply 135 MMSCFD of gas to power plants of state electricity company PLN including 40 MMSCFD in Arun and 95 MMSCFD in Belawan, Medan.
Altogether, the Arun LNG terminal will supply 385 MMSCFD of gas.
Distribution of gas to industries and power plants in North Sumatra will be made through transmission pipes operated by Pertagas.
Currently, Pertagas already completed construction of gas transmission pipes beyween Arun and Belawan.
The pipes between Arun and the Medan Industrial Estate and Sei Mengkei Special Economic Zone are under construction.
Hendra said this week , a Pertagas' subsidiary PT Perta Arun Gas will finish the process of re-gasification of LNG to be channeled to a PLN's power plant in North Aceh.
The gas supply will help cope with crisis in power supply in Aceh and north Sumatra, he said.
He said Pertagas could still supply gas if Aceh wants to build new industrial estates.
President Joko Widodo on Monday commissioned the operation of the LNG receiving and re-gasification terminal in Blang Lancang, Lhokseumawe, North Aceh.
Pertagas reported a net profit of US$178.7 million (Rp2.2 trillion) in 2014 or an increase of 12 percent from US$158.4 million in 2013.
