REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEOUL -- One of the largest gas consumer in the world, Japan plans to diversify gas suppliers and in future. The country is interested to several alternative countries supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG), such as United States, Canada, Mozambique, East Siberia and East Africa.

CEO of Tokyo Gas, Shigeru Muraki said that diversification of natural gas was needed to change the pricing structure and gas contracts. During this time, there is no flexibility in contract and gas price from producer countries.

"Supply from these countries will have an impact on new gas price mechanism," Muraki said in Seoul as reported by Elba Damhuri.

Japan believes that diversification of gas supplier will change the contract structure in short and medium term and create flexibility and cost of import.

Structural change is something very important for Japan in supplying natural gas, especially for its LNG machineries. Japan imports the natural gas from several Asian countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia and Qatar.
