REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Small and Medium Entreprises (SME) on culinary is encouraged to export rendang to Netherland, Vice Minister of Trade Bayu Krisnamurthi said. Rendang is made of beef cooked with coconut milk and spices.

"Netherlands have at least 1,500 restaurants serving Asian food. 30 percent of them are Indonesian restaurants. Our traditional food has a strong root in Holland culinary market," he said on Wednesday.

With the promising market, Ministry of Trade appreciates the SME innovating culinary industry, such as packaging. "We encourage entrepreneurs to give additional value to their culinary products," he said.

After entering Netherland, he will open market opportunity to sell rendang to South Africa. "Around 1.5 million Indonesia living in South Africa loves rending and it is a promising market," he said.

However, he reminded every SME to maintain the quality of their products and package their products well to improve competitiveness. Indonesia will also face challenges from Malaysia who already exports its Malaysian Rendang to Europe.
