President to install new national police commission members

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono plans to install members of the National Police Commission for the 2012-2016 term at the State Palace, on Monday. Earlier in a press statement when the President was on a working visit to Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, late May, Minister Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said members of the National Police Commission for the 2012-2016 term would be installed under a Presidential Decree.

He said under Law No 2 of 2002 on the Indonesian Police and Presidential Regulation N 17 of 2011 on the National Police Commission, its members would comprise three government officials, three police experts, and another three public figures. Members of the National Police Commission from the government are ex officio Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs as Chairman of the National Police Commission, Home Affairs Minister as deputy chairman, and Legal and Security Affairs Minister as member.

The expert police members are Prof Adrianus Eliasta Meliala MSI MSc, and Inspector General (ret.) Logan Siagian MH, and Brig Gen (ret.) Syafriadi Cut Ali. And the public figures are Edi Saputra Hasibuan (from the press), Dr Hamidah Abdurrachman (from higher learning institution in Central Java) and Dr M Nasser (psychologist).

The six National Police Commission members from the police force and public figures had been chosen from 12 names and handed over from the selection committee at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on February 14, 2012.
