REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Four Indonesian state-owned enterprises were ready to expand their businesses in Myanmar, an official said. "Under the Indonesian Incorporated flag, four state companies namely Pertamina (oil and gas company), Wika (property), Semen Gresik (cement) and BNI (banking) are prepared to enter Myanmar," Deputy of State-Owned Enterprises Minister Sumaryanto Widayatin said, recently.

He said Pertamina would expand its oil and gas business, while Wika would do the same in property and Semen Gresik would set up a factory in Myanmar. Meanwhile, BNI would offer financial services to Indonesian state-owned companies willing to operate in Myanmar.

However, he did not mention the value of investment that the four companies had planned. "Myanmar is in the phase of developing itself to be on the same level as other ASEAN member countries. I think this is the opportunity for Indonesia to assist Myanmar in achieving its goals, while also helping Indonesian companies expand their businesses abroad," Sumaryanto added.
