REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JOMBANG -- Khilafah administration in Indonesia is possible when there was powerful support from abroad, says KH Salahuddin Wahid, leader of the Tebu Ireng Islamic Boarding House in Jombang, East Java. He believed that khilafah does not exist in the country.
He went on to say, if Khilafah Islamiyah is forced upon Indonesia, it is almost certain the country would be torn apart by strife.
"There are people including intellectuals like university lecturers and students who believe that khilafah would bring prosperity to the country, but what is certain is civil strife and disaster. Therefore, first we must prevent the disaster," Kiai Salahuddin, better known as Gus Sholah said addressing a seminar highlighting the 51 anniversary of the University of Hasyim Asyari (Unhasy) here on Saturday.
The Presidium of corps of Alumni of the Association of Islamic Students and and former chief of the Constitutional Court Prof. Mahfud MD said Islam does not rule adoption of Khilafah system.
"There is no source and order in the Al Qur'an to establish a Khilafah state," Mahfud said.
Khilafah is a system calling for a single government administration all over the world based on the Islamic sharia law.
