REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ustaz Abdul Somad Instagram account was suspended on last Saturday (Feb 24) night. Speculation grew over this issue. However, the account with 1.7 million followers has been accessible on Monday.
Jakarta Senator Fahira Idris hoped the efforts to narrow the space for preaching by blocking ustaz Somad's social media account will be the last incident following the previous blockage and ouster. She said, the people needed ustaz Somad's fresh and relevant view. "Probably, his ability to unite the Muslims displeased certain parties," she said in a written statement received by Republika.co.id on Monday.
Social media expert Hariqo Wibawa Satria said there were several possibilities when an account is no longer accessible. First, it was blocked by Instagram or reported by many accounts in the related platform.
Hariqo said Instagram has policies which has been described before someone creates an account. Such as not uploading content that violates norms, violence, pornography, copyright, hate speech, and opposition to plagiarism. Instagram may block or suspend the account for those reasons.
"I see Ustaz Abdul Somad's account has good and positive contents, so probably it was suspended for other reasons," said Hariqo on Sunday (Feb 25).
Hariqo explained ustaz Somad's account could be reported by other Instagram users or by the preacher himself. However, it seemed the accound was not managed by other people.
Hariqo said, individual verification system has been one of the weaknesses of social media. One person in the real world can have up to hundreds of accounts on one social media platform. So the account may be attacked by many fake accounts.
Ustaz Somad informed his Instagram account inaccessible since last February 24. He announced it through his Facebook page.
"Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh dear friends, we would like to informed that since last night, February 24, we have lost access to the official Instagram account of Ustaz Abdul Somad without any notification," he said in a written statement.
