ICMI urges ASEAN, OIC to seek solution for Rohingya

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) has urged the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to seek a solution to the humanity tragedy affecting Rohingya ethnic minority in Myanmar.

"We urge the ASEAN and OIC to take active part in finding a fair, comprehensive, and integrated solution to solve the issue of Rohingya ethnic group conflict," ICMI Deputy Chairman Priyo Budi Santoso said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The tragedy is also part of ASEAN and OIC member states' responsibility, he added.

The Indonesian government has sent Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi to meet Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other top officials to discuss the issue.
