REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) would not be hasty in issuing a new investigation warrant (sprindik) for Chairman of House of Representatives (DPR) Setya Novanto in alleged e-ID card corruption case.

KPK deputy chairman Saut Situmorang said the anti-graft body will review the plan to issue new sprindik cautiously.

"We will examine in details what steps we should take. We will take our time in reviewing it. Clearly, we would not stop," Situmorang said, Thursday (October 5).

After hearing judge Cepi Iskandar's decision in the pretrial suit filed by Novanto against KPK, the anti-graft body is evaluating their steps. "We should find out our weaknesses and deal with it," Saut remarked.

Previously, KPK has officially requested to prolong travel ban for Novanto to prevent him from going abroad. Indonesia's Immigration accepted the request and issued a warrant for six months ahead, since October 2.

"By the issuance of extended travel ban, we show that there are many information needed from Novanto," said other KPK deputy chairman Laode M. Syarif.

KPK named Novanto as a suspect in the ID-card graft chase on July 17, 2017. He is accused of inflicting Rp2.3 trillion in losses to the state in relation to the Rp5.9 trillion project.

South Jakarta District Court judge Cepi Iskandar, who had accepted Novanto's pretrial motion, stated on September 29, 2017, that the naming of Novanto, who is also the House's chairman, as a suspect is not based on appropriate procedures.

Judge Iskandar concluded that the naming of the suspect by the KPK is not in line with the procedures and Law No. 30 of 2002 on the KPK, Criminal code Procedure, and the standard operating procedure of the anti-graft body.

According to Supreme Court, winning the pretrial does not eliminate the criminal act Novanto had allegedly committed.
