REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The government would follow up its plan to disband Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) through a legal process as mentioned in Law No.17 in 2013 on Community Organization.

Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin said it proven that the government was not repressive in responding to the organization.

Lukman appealed that all people respect the action taken by the government. He also ensured that HTI could still use its defensive right in dealing with the trial. All people should keep and guarantee the safety of goods and life of HTI’s members.

"The apparatus and the society should not be vigilante. There should be any violence or destructions to any HTI’s property,” said Lukman to Republika.co.id in a press release on Tuesday (May 9).

He explained that the legal action taken were not a sign that government was anti-community organization. This was not also a sign to blockade the Islamic preaching and movements. It was an effort to handle a community organization to do a political movements to change state ideology.

According to Lukman, the Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law and Security Wiranto’s statement to disband HTI was a strong and clear political action by the government to keep Pancasila as state ideology. It aimed at protecting the state from any movement to build caliphate.

"Let’s think clearly and do not make any contra-productive action. Let the court take its decision related to the legal process in HTI disbanding,” he said.

Previously, the government stated through Wiranto that HTI would be disbanded. As a legal community organization, HTI did not take positive roles in the development process to reach national purposes.

HTI activities were also indicated to be contrary to Pancasila and UUD 1945 and to make clashes among the societies. The government decided to take a legal process to officially disband it.
