Bambang Sudibyo elected as World Zakat Forum Secretary General

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the National Zakat (Baznas), Bambang Sudibyo, was elected as Secretary General of the World Zakat Forum (WZF) for the period of 2017 to 2020. The election held in WZF Conference 2017 took place in Jakarta, Thursday (March 16). "It needs the support of all parties in promoting the charity, for over the next three years," said Bambang.

He thanked WZF members for appointing and trusting him as a chairman of WZF. Bambang's election as Secretary General could meant that Indonesia's charities were appreciated by international society. "I express gratitude for Ahmad Juwaini who carried the transition process very well. The new leadership of will work hard to recruit more members and to reach targets," he added.

Ahmad Juwaini was former Secretary General of WZF and Executive Director of Dompet Dhuafa in the period of 2013 to 2016. According to him, Bambang was appointed because he has considerably experiences and extensive network, when he served as finance minister in the period of 1999 to 2000 and 2004 to 2009.

WZF Secretary General election was attended by zakat activists from 11 countries. One country could only give one vote. Chairman of Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ) Malaysia, Amran Hazali, was appreciating Juwaini for his leadership in WZF over the last three years.

WZF Conference 2017 was also resulted in 11 resolutions of charity movement for the next three years. The participants of the conference agreed to carry out campaigns to increase global welfare by enhancing the role of zakat to reduce poverty in many countries.
