Time to fulfill campaign promises

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Anies Baswedan will officially become a DKI Jakarta Governor following his inauguration on Monday (October 16). He pledged the inauguration will marked the start of phases of the implementation of his campaign promises.

"The real struggle to change Jakarta will be started," Anies said on ceremony and prayed event on Sunday (October 15).

The former minister of education and culture assessed the struggle to change Jakarta divided into three phases. "It started with the campaign, continued with preparation phase, then the implementation," he explained.

He invited all the volunteers who has been cooperating since the early phase to continue to work hand in hand in the realization of campaign promises. He said, promises conveyed during the campaign, now become the ideals and expectations of millions of citizens of Jakarta.

"This position is a mandate from many people. Please pray for us to carry out the mandate. We pledged to fulfill all the promises of the campaign," he added.

The 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election was the hottest race in the history of Indonesian politics. It has triggered polarization in the community. Therefore, Anies promised reconciliation in his first 100 days program.

He also emphasizied to consolidate the Jakarta provincial government bureaucracy.

Beside that, he promised to provide more job opportunities through the inauguration of entrepreneurship center, provide low-cost housing and capital participation program. 

In his campaign, Anies also stated to launch Kartu Jakarta Pintar Plus (Jakarta Smart Card-Plus). 

After the inauguration at State Palace, Anies was scheduled to deliver two speeches after the inauguration. First, in front of the council members in a plenary session in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), then the speech at City Hall field while greeting the citizens of Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Sandiaga Uno as deputy governor-elect said his hopes on the prayer. He believed nothing stronger than the power of prayer and it was expected to bring a strong motivation.

"So Insya Allah (God's willing) we can be trustworthy to lead Jakarta," Sandiaga said.
