Sukabumi police forms special joint team to reveal the blasphemy of Quran

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- Sukabumi Police paid a serious attention to the finding of an Alquran that has been being tainted with insulting sentences and drawings. The police has formed a special joint team to uncover insulting writings and drawings found at the pages of Quran. "The team will work on the case for 24 hours every day," said Head of Sukabumi Police's Criminal Investigation Department, Commissioner Adjutant (AKP) Mohammad Devi Farsawan to reporters on Wednesday (Feb 15).

In handling the case, Devi said the team has coordinated with the local Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) and other parties. He asked the peoples not to get provoked by the incident. "Anyone who has information regarding the case of blasphemy of the Quran, please report it to the the nearest police station or the intelligence agent," he said. 

So far, the police has examined two witnesses, namely Edah Wahyuni (50) and M Romli (36). Edah was the first witness who found the Quran. She saw the Quran wrapped in a black plastic bag lying at Gang Cereme III, Kebonjati, Cikole Sub-district, Sukabumi, West Java on Thursday (Feb 9).

Meanwhile, Romli made the report on the finding to the MUI at Sukabumi on Friday (Feb 10). The police worked on the case on Monday (Feb 13).

Sukabumi MUI Secretary Muh Kusoy asked the police to investigate the perpetrator of blashpemy of the Quran. According to Ustaz Kusoy, the incident was already in the domain of the crime of blasphemy and the Quran. "On the other hand, Kusoy said, MUI urged the peoples not to be emotional and trusted the case to the police.
