REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Legal expert from the Indonesian Islamic University in Yogyakarta, Mudzakir, said thousand members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) always overseeing the examination on Habib M Rizieq Shihab did not meant as intervention to the legal process. They come to show dissatisfaction over alleged cases involving the grand imam. "We could say that Habib Rizieq discriminated," Mudzakir told Republika.co.id, on Monday (January 23).

Mudzakir said if the cases were alleged murder or corruption, Habib Rizieq would not have support from his followers. "His supporters assess that Habib Rizieq is discriminated so they wanted to safeguard him," Mudzakir said.

Supposedly, Mudzakir said, the police processed other citizens who did the same as alleged to Habib Rizieq. Therefore, equality before the law is applied. "To be fair, the police should process all cases.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the Assembly, Hidayat Nur Wahid, said discrimination in enforcing the law could sparked Muslims' distrust to the police. "If the police are not trusted by the public due to the discriminatory law enforcement, it will bound to make the public not trusting the state," he told Republika.co.id on Monday.

Furthermore, Hidayat said, if the public distrusted the state, the danger would be same as the public does not believe in democracy. "If the public does not believe in democracy, it would widely open the door of anarchic, radicalism to terrorism. Whereas, we're trying to prevent it all from happening," he reiterated.

Hidayat called all parties to have introspection and evaluation. He suspected the possibility of third party existance who deliberately wanted a wedge between Muslims and police. "There are some parties who are trying to provoke Muslims to have clash with the police."

Those party, according to Hidayat, might dislike the strong relationship between Muslims, the police and the army that has been built for years. They dislike the pillar of Indonesia's strength -- Muslims, police, and army, are united," he said.

Hidayat noticed his suspicion is portrayed in the situation nowadays.
