Muslims feels oppressed, depressed and accused: Din Syamsuddin

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI), Din Syamsuddin, noticed opression against Muslims is growing intens recently. He addressed that at the meeting attended by the Indonesian chief minister of security, political and legal affairs, Wiranto, on Wednesday. "Muslims felt oppressed, depressed and accussed," Din said.

Din said that it would not be good to let the condition continues. He remind that in Indonesia, Muslims are the majority and have obligation to keep the nation.  "The government will lose its strategic partner in preserving the nation," he reiterated.

Din felt the peace will be threatened if the government did not give space to the Muslims. Nationalism would also be threatened if the government let the imbalance.  

Furthermore, Din expressed MUI was jolt and some parties were allowed to proposed the idea of MUI's dissolution.  "The 411 Rally and 212 Rally were Muslims reaction to protect MUI," he said.
