ICMI urges its members to be role model

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Marwah Daud Ibrahim, one of Indonesian Muslim Intellectual Association (ICMI) member was not pleased with the East Java Police over arrest of Dimas Kanjeng Taat Pribadi, a spiritual leader allegedly murdered two of his disciples and accused with deception case of Rp 25 billion.

Dimas was arrested on Thursday (9/22) in his hermitage, East Java.

As Chairperson of Dimas Kanjeng Taat Pribadi Hermitage Foundation, Marwah considered the East Java Police was outrageous. She explained Dimas is a king that earned his title from over 100 kingdoms throughout the Indonesia regions and should not be treated like a criminal.

Marwah believed Dimas is not guilty. "This is a character assassination," she said on a TV dialogue on Thursday (9/29).

In addition, Marwah said Dimas has been blessed to have the ability to move money from one place to another. "I see it with my own eyes. A chest that was empty, filled with money when opened a moment after."

Marwah said the amount of money in that chest were enough to fullfill the demands from followers who want their money back.

Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) said Marwah statement was not representing the asscociation.

"It was a personal statement, not a board of expert view nor ICMI presidiuum," Chairman of ICMI, Jimly Asshiddiqie said on a statement made available to Republika.co.id, Friday (9/30).

ICMI, Jimly said, will never let and never give support to anyone who did something bad, either according to Islamic teaching nor the law.

"We urged all ICMI members, as well as all the scientists and Muslims intellectual, to be a role model for the people and to provide insight needed to bring people to higher civilization," he said.
