REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA –- Rais ‘Aam of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), KH Ma’aruf Amin, defined Islam Nusantara as teaching of Islam which maintains the local tradition of Indonesia and do not against the basic Islamic teachings.
“Islam Nusantara is to accommodate the existing tradition and maintain the local tradition. Islam Nusantara is Islam that exists in Indonesia,” he said, Wednesday (19/8).
The socialization of concept of Islam Nusantara can use peaceful and polite way, and also without intimidation. Islam Nusantara can show that Islam in Indonesia is full of peace, brotherhood, and love.
NU will continue to socialize the Islam Nusantara to be understood by all people. The socialization will also be made to politicians, economists, and various professions.
