MUI appreciates armed forces allowed to wear hijab

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), KH. Ma'ruf Amin expressed his great appreciation to Commander General Moeldoko on granting permission for military women (Wan TNI) to wear hijab.

"Very good. I really appreciate it," said KH. Ma'ruf Amin when contacted by ROL on Saturday, May 23.

Earlier, police women were allowed to wear hijab, so he was glad if military women are allowed to wear hijab too. He said it could help women military to do their job but could still run religious orders properly.

"Police Women had been allowed to wear hijab. This way they could run properly their religious orders," he said.

Previously, TNI Commander General Moeldoko expressed that he had no objection if military women using hijab. He said that while giving a briefing to all soldiers in the hangar Soewondo Air Field, Medan, North Sumatra on Friday, May 22.

"Wear it, we do not forbid it. Were we ever banned the military women to use hijab? It's up to each person," said Moeldoko.
