Biak limits sales of alcoholic beverages during Ramadan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BIAK - Regional Government of Biak in Papua limits sales time of alcoholic beverages during the fasting month of Ramadan. The policy is also aimed to welcome celebration of 68th  Indonesian Independence on August 17, 2013.

"Limtation on alcoholic beverages sales are intended to honor Muslims in Papua. It simultaneously supports safe atmosphere to welcome celebration of Indonesian Independence," Daily Executive Secretary of Government in Biak, Mathias Mandowen said on Saturday.

This instruction applies to suppliers, distributors, retailers, employers and general public. All nightspot, such as bars, discos, karaoke bars are prohibited to sell alcoholic beverages from 10.00 am to 22.00 pm. They could sell it from 10.00 pm to 02.00 am.

Government will take firm action on employers, retailers and night spots if violation occurs. People are also not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages in public place for fear it can disrupt security and public order.
