REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- Democratic Party presidential convention participant Dino Patti Djalal continues to echo the creation of meritocratic leadership in the government where a leader gets power on the basis of his or her capability and achievement.

"For me, meritocratic leadership is important and therefore I will continue to echo it through my ideas," the former Indonesian ambassador to the United States stated during his political safari here on Tuesday.

He noted that the meritocratic leadership, if related to the context of 2014 general elections, meant the election of a leader was not on the basis of his or her origin and background, but merely on his or her capability and achievement.

"Meritocracy is likened to Fatin, the singer who won the first prize in a music contest event on television because of her ability to sing, and not because of her physical appearance, gender, or her family background," Dino pointed out, adding that meritocracy was still weak in the government.
