REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla has called on the people here on Friday to use the momentum offered by Eid al-Adha to sacrifice for the progress of the nation.
"I hope Eid al-Adha would give us wisdom and guidance to carry out our activities in daily life to help build the country into an advance nation and to ensure peace and security," he emphasized.
Kalla appealed to Muslims in the country to learn from and follow the examples set by Prophet Ibrahim who had expressed his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail to follow God's order.
He said Muslims and other religious followers in the country also need to understand that sacrifice will be needed to achieve a goal.

"We all Muslims must learn from the example set by Prophet Ibrahim, and sacrifice will be needed in order to achieve a goal," he said.
The vice president and his wife Mufidah took part in the Eid al-Adha prayer service at the Istiqlal mosque in Jakarta on Friday morning.
Kalla donated a cow weighing 1.3 tons to the mosque. He also handed over a sacrificial cow weighing 1.5 tons on behalf of President Joko Widodi who was in Sukabumi, West Java.
