REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- DKI Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan stated that policy making in Jakarta should be based on public interests. He said, the management of land, water, bay and islands, for example, should not be laid on the basis of individual interests.

"The management must not be for one group, not for the benefit of an association, not for the benefit of one corporation. It must be for all Jakarta citizen. Jakarta for all. This is the spirit of development that we put together in Jakarta," he said in front of hundreds of residents of DKI Jakarta in City Hall, Monday.

In addition, Anies said the governor was not merely an administrator to the people. He asserted, the people should be involved in designing development.

Therefore, he asked assemblies in the community to be revived to build consensus.

"The governor is not just an administrator for his citizens. We want to be more than that. We want to collaborate with Jakarta citizen as the designer of development," he said.

Anies then quoted Madura adage that the ducks lay eggs, but chickens incubate the eggs. He said, Jakarta citizens should be the host of their own city.

"As we all work hard, all of us must feel the benefit of independence in the capital," he said.
