REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Australia's special envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ahmed Fohour has urged all parties to prevent radicalism and fight Islamophobia.
"We not only want to prevent radicalism and extremism but also fight Islamophobia, because all Muslims love peace," Ahmed Fohour said, after meeting Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the vice presidential office here, on Wednesday.
According to him, all parties have a responsibility to prevent the community from becoming radicalized, and the efforts to do so should start from home and family.
"We strongly support the OIC countries in counteracting radicalism. It is a very important initiative not only for the governments but also for Muslims," Fohour revealed.
He stated that the government has its own efforts, and Muslims also have their own way of countering radicalism.
In some countries today, Muslims are facing many social challenges. Terror acts also still take place in some countries which trigger islamophobia.
The Australian special envoy for the OIC met Kalla to discuss the development of Islam in the two countries and in other OIC countries.
They also discussed the development of Indonesia International Islamic University (UIII), which will be built by the Indonesian government this year.
According to Fohour, UIII is a visionary plan, which can benefit Muslims around the world.
