REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani would come to Indonesia on April 5-6, 2017. This would be his first visit to Indonesia and South East Asia.

Director of South and Middle Asia of Foreign Ministry Ferdy Piay said Ghani wanted to see Indonesian experiences in resolving its internal conflicts. He hoped to be able to implement it in his country to support the reconciliation process.

“The focus of the visit is Indonesian role. We know Afghanistan is experiencing problems in establishing peace,” said Ferdy in Jakarta on Thursday (March 30).

Ferdy said Ghani was interested in learning Indonesian experiences in dealing with terrorism. The deradicalization program by Detachment 88 was argued to potentially help his country to combat radicalism.

“Indonesia helps the reconciliation in Afghanistan. There was still much potency for Indonesia,” he said.

Before coming to Indonesia, Ghani would also visit Australia for several days. After having two days visit to Indonesia, Ghani would come to Singapore.
