Gambian Minister welcomes RI's agriculture team

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Gambian Agriculture Minister Ismaila Sanyang welcomed the visit of an Indonesian monitoring and evaluation team on agricultural trainings, the Indonesian Embassy in Amman, Jordan, has informed.

The Indonesian government will be renovating Agriculture Rural Farmers Training Center in Jenoi, about 180 kilometers from Gambia's capital of Banjul, the Indonesian Embassy in Amman, Jordan, said in a press release received by Antara here Sunday.

The minister said that the agriculture center is a real form of cooperation between Indonesia and Gambia.

The center is a regional home for the farmers in West African and is a center of excellence for agriculture in the region, Sanyang added.

The agriculture center was established by Indonesia on July 14, 1998 as a form of cooperation between the two countries.

From July 22 to 25, 2016, an Indonesian Monitoring and Evaluation team, led by the Ambassador of Indonesia in Dakar, Senegal, Mansyur Pangeran, accompanied by the Head of Training Center at the Ministry of Agriculture, Widi Hardjono, visited Jenoi to see the follow-up of some agricultural trainings that have been provided by Indonesia to the people of West African countries, especially Gambia.

In addition to evaluating the activities in the center, the team will revitalize ARFTC's facilities, including renovating the buildings. The renovation will be conducted by the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works.

The Deputy Director for Africa and the Middle East at the Directorate of Technical Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sigit Witjaksono, said that the renovation was needed to improve operations in the center.
