REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A total of 9,000 Indonesian citizens are studying in Europe at present, the European Union's ambassador to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, Vincent Guerend, said here on Saturday.

"Europe has become a more popular destination for education for Indonesian school students and, right now, there are around 9,000 of them studying in the region," he disclosed.

He stated that more than 5,000 students from Indonesia studied for S1 (master) degree and S2 (post-graduate) study in 2015.

"Their number keeps increasing every year by an average of five to ten percent," he added.

Based on the fact, he believed, the number of Indonesian students wishing to pursue further study in Europe will continue to increase in the future.

"We are convinced there will be an increase. It certainly is because there are more than 4,000 higher education institutes to choose from, offering 15,000 S2 programs taught in the English language. Language is not a problem for even those countries that do not use English in their daily life," he observed.

He pointed out that most universities in Europe offer high tech facilities and cheaper tuition fees compared to other countries.

"And, of course, we also have a good learning atmosphere and good city environmental conditions. We believe these factors will make Europe the best choice for those wishing to study abroad," he reasoned.
