REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMMAN -- Jordan said on Monday there is no alternative to negotiations to achieve peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
At a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh called for the immediate halt of Israelis aggression against the Palestinians, which hamper peacemaking efforts.
The two sides also looked into latest developments and efforts exerted to revive peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
In this regard, Judeh said there is no alternative to negotiations to address all final status issues, leading to the creation of an independent Palestinian state at the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the international legitimacy resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which offers Israel normal ties with the Arabs in return for withdrawal from territories it occupied in 1967.
The minister said Jordan will continue to defend holy Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem.
On his part, the Palestinian president voiced appreciation for Jordan's support at all regional and international levels.
