REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Officials from the office of Indonesia's Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs have met with leaders of Timor Leste to discuss maritime cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was held in Dili, Timor Leste, on January 17-18, according to a press statement received here on Tuesday.
Deputy I for Maritime Sovereignty of the office of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Arif Havas Oegroseno, attended the meeting with Timor Leste officials, including Timor Leste's Prime Minister Rui Maria de Araujo, its Foreign Minister Leste Herenani Coelho da Silva, Minister for Oecussi's Economic Development and Social Affairs, Maria Alkatiri, and Minister for Development Planning and Strategic Investment, Xanana Gusmao.
"Discussions covered various kinds of maritime cooperation, including maritime border, fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and possibility of hydrocarbon investment by Indonesia in Timor Leste," Arif Havas Oegroseno said.
The results of the meeting would be followed up by technical teams.
The office of the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs, headed by Rizal Ramli, stated that a number of Indonesian consultants have already carried out geological surveys and Timor Leste's youth have been trained as reliable surveyors.
One hundred Timor Leste students are presently pursuing the study of geology in various universities in Indonesia.
