Two Indonesian companies awarded best companies in Southeast Asia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) to issuers in Indonesia was still far behind, compared to other ASEAN countries. Of 50 issuers in ASEAN that were awarded as best companies in Manila last weekend, there were only two companies from Indonesia.

PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk and PT Bank Danamon Tbk were successfully awarded GCG implementation at the level of ASEAN. Compared to Indonesia, issuers from Thailand got biggest number of company, which was about 23 issuers. Then there were 11 issuers from Philippines, eight issuers from Singapore, and six issuers from Malaysia.

"The level of GCG implementation is still less by the issuers. We are only two, but Thailand are 23," said Chief Executive of Capital Market Supervisory of Financial Services Authority (OJK), Nurhaida, at Hotel Kempinski, Jakarta, Monday ( 16/11).

She denied GCG implementation in Indonesia was still considered as a burden. Even so, Nurhaida also criticized the assessment of GCG in ASEAN level.

He hoped there would be at least 10 issuers as representative of Indonesia, who won the title of best companies in GCG ASEAN. It was given by the end ofHYPERLINK "tel:2015"2015 Indonesia would face the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

"More and more issuers that implement GCG, our competitiveness in ASEAN level rise," Nurhaida added.
