REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, RIYADH -- Saudi Health Ministry announced on Sunday the registration of six new Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) corona virus cases in a week from June 28 to July 4, Saudi Press Agency reported.
The new cases brought the total cases to 1,045, including 460 deaths. Saudi Arabia has adopted tough prevention and treatment measures with 55.3 percent recovery rate.
The six new cases were reported in Riyadh and Damam, as 644 samples were tested at the ministry's labs in last week.
Since the first outbreak of MERS in 2012, Riyadh has twice replaced its health ministers, while the country's health authorities have urged its nationals to stay away from consuming camel meat or milk, which is the main suspect of the spreading of the virus.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a typical case of MERS infection involves symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath, and can lead to pneumonia and kidney failure.
The virus is contracted through exposure to infected individuals, either from health facilities like hospitals, or by direct contact with camels.
