Malaysia seeks global security dan prosperity through AAC

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on Thursday for a two-day visit to attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (AAC).

The visit will give Najib a chance to exchange views with other leaders of Asian and African leaders about bilateral, regional, and international issues, Kosmo daily quoted the Malaysian Foreign Ministry as saying on Monday.

"The visit reflects Malaysia's support and commitment to strengthen cooperation with other developing nations, especially in Asia and Africa with one goal, to encourage global security and prosperity through South-South Cooperation," it said.

During the visit, Najib will be accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.

The AAC commemorative event will be held in Jakarta from April 19 to 23 and in Bandung, West Java, on April 24.

Information and Media Director of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry Siti Sofia Sudarma said some 32 world leaders will attend the AAC Summit.

Among the leaders who have confirmed their attendance are those from Brunei Darussalam, Jordan, Swaziland, China, North Korea, Iran, Madagascar, Malawi, Myanmar, Namibia, Sudan, Timor Leste, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Egypt, Gabon, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Singapore, and Thailand.

Six countries, namely Algeria, Angola, Liberia, the Philippines, Seychelles, and Zambia, will send deputy heads of state or government.

The AAC Ministerial Meeting to be held on April 20, will be participated in by ministers from 40 Asian and African nations.

Representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Union, ASEAN, the United Nations, the Arab Leagues, the South Center are also attending the AAC commemorative.

Events marking the AAC include a senior officials' meeting on April 19, a ministerial-level meeting on April 20, the Asian-African Business Summit on April 21, and the Asian-African Summit in Jakarta on April 22 and 23.

The heads of state will also participate in the historical walk event, which will be held in Bandung on April 24.

The AAC was first organized in Bandung in April 1955, at the initiative of Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma), Ceylon (Sri Lanka), India, and Pakistan.
